Inquiring Minds Book Group
On Monday April 8th at 10AM, we will discuss TWO books. The primary book for discussion is “Wilmington’s Lie: The Murderous Coup of 1898 and the Rise of White Supremacy” by David Zucchino. The book is a true account of a violent insurrection in Wilmington, North Carolina that replaced an elected government with white rule. The author, a Pulitzer Prize winner, thoroughly researched the events in Wilmington and explains the background, including the causes and effects.
The second book (optional) is “Up Home: One Girl’s Journey” by Ruth J. Simmons. This memoir is an inspiring account of a girl (a sharecropper’s daughter) living in segregated Grapeland, Texas who rises to become an educator and college president at three highly respected institutions – Smith College, Brown University and Prairie View A&M.
Meetings are held in the Parlor of Pilgrim House and light refreshments are served. All are welcome to join for any one discussion or to attend regularly for the monthly discussions. We hope you will join us!
