"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."
1 Peter 4:10
Reaching out to our greater community makes sense, and then sometimes it becomes another item on my to do list. As a wife, mom, friend, teacher, it feels like there is always someone needing something from me. So how (or why) should I add one more thing? Yet, let’s try to step out of the day-to-day and make a little change.
Like the physics teacher told my class in college as he repelled down the lecture hall wall, “an object in motion stays in motion.” So alright, I will get into motion again. Volunteering has always been a part of my life, as well as First Parish, so being able to combine the two by joining the Outreach Committee is a way to get both of these important pieces back into gear and moving again.
Seeing the smiles of those we work with and those we serve fills my soul and provides the encouragement to keep going. Small gifts of food or goods, garden cleaning, house building or envelope stuffing. There is space for all of us to bring our hearts and bodies together to serve our community, our church, and our world.
On Sunday we will be welcoming representatives from many local organizations our church supports through outreach grants. Join us to hear the stories of their amazing work, as we all strive to build momentum toward even greater acts of service and outreach.
