Let there be Light
By:
"For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ."
2 Corinthians 4:6
I must admit that this is my least favorite time of the year spiritually. For me it seems to be a dark and empty space between the celebration of Christmas, and the spiritual focus and sacrifice of the Lenten season. The weather is cold, and the darkness seems to consume a disproportionate part of our day. I have struggled with this as an adult, but it has become increasingly difficult for me recently as the world seems more and more a place of darkness, fractured by division and war. It can be hard to see the light at times.
The importance of “light” is integral in the Bible, as it is apparently mentioned in 235 different passages, representing all that is good and worthy. Like Paul in the quoted scripture, I take comfort in the fact that God represents light and salvation, and that the birth of Jesus is a reflection of that promise. Always reminding myself that this light is not just a blessing to receive, but one to pass on to others.
Prayer: Heavenly God, we thank you for your light and enduring love during times of darkness. Help us recognize and receive your light displayed in the face of Christ and pass its goodness on to the people around us. Amen
