Stained Glass Windows Restoration Project Update!
The restoration of our historical stained glass windows started in 2003 with the full factory restoration of the 1882 Adams-Chamberlain window above the Chancel and Reredos. With the grace and blessings of congregation members that have provided bequest and a recent gift from Bowdoin College, the Property Committee can see the light at the end of the tunnel. In 2022 we completed a three-year contract to restore the stained glass windows around the Vestry and the Morrell Room, most of which had not been touched in nearly 100 years according to our Archivist. Our current project phase is restoring two windows at the back of the Sanctuary and along Bath Road facing Bowdoin. Our hope is to complete the restoration project by 2026, funds permitting. We all know that historical restoration is a complex, detailed, and labor-intensive effort by skilled workers, which obviously translates to higher costs. Willet Hauser, Associated Crafts, from Winona, Minnesota has been our long time go-to company because of quality, responsiveness, and flexibility. Included are a few progress photos showing examples of the detailed workmanship that goes into the historical factory restoration process.
