From the Archives... Pews for Everyone!

Our archive display in the sanctuary highlights pew ownership from the 1840’s and includes the original 1846 pew seating chart among other artifacts cataloged within our church archives by our amazing Mildred Jones who spent 25 years organizing our historical documents and artifacts.  Our archives include two large metal cabinets, three five-foot cabinets with drawers packed full of folders filed alphabetically by name, year, and color-coded by century and an old vault that contains still more materials holding our church’s history.  Rather than include more artifacts of the pew owners from the 1830’s – 1880’s, I thought that it would be more fun to see photos of people who in recent years or weeks actually have sat or still sit in our pews today. Matter of fact, any of us can sit wherever we choose because we no longer have pew ownerships! While looking around in a box, I found some polaroid photos of members who joined the church during more recent years and thought you might enjoy seeing them along with the year that the individual(s) joined First Parish Church. As usual, I have also included church bulletins from 100 years ago and 50 years ago that contain interesting information about our church and the world.  I hope you’ll enjoy them, too.
